Setting Up your portfolio
Part 1: Create an Introductory Splash / Home page introducing yourself
Requirements:
- Your task is to create a digital portfolio that will be used to showcase most of your learning for this course
- Use the weebly.com website developer tool (As an alternative, you could use Wix)
- If you don't have a weebly account already, you will need to sign up for a free account. Remember to use an email address that you use frequently, and use a password that you will not forget... it might be useful to write down the login information and password somewhere where you can look it up in case you forget it.

- The focus is not only on creating specific content, but also on figuring out how to use weebly.com effectively
- If you already have a portfolio site created in the past, make sure that you can log onto it and access your site(s)
- You can either make a new site, or create a new tab within your existing site.
- If you choose to add to your existing site, remember that previous courses should be moved so they are under a specific tab for each course. That way it will be easy for me to find your newer work.

Part 1: Create an Introductory Splash / Home page introducing yourself
- Note: If you have taken a course before out of this room, you may need to just do some updating
- Welcome to your site
- Name of course
- Images related - robotics, programming, and computers
- Picture of the front of your name card
- Optional: Creative representation of your headshot - created in an online editing program or art app
- At least one inspirational quotes that you find inspiring and motivating
- Be sure to provide the author the quote. If you honestly can't find it, put it as anonymous
- Don't take the easy route and just include pictures of quote posters. Instead take the time to format the quotes so they are visually appealing.
- Explain / discuss why you selected each of the quotes. In other words, what does each quote mean to you specifically or what do you think it is trying to say.
- Appropriate graphic(s) that add to the impact of the quotes
- For the author(s) of the quotes (if they are famous), you could provide a picture of the author and a link to an existing page where your viewers could learn more about them.
- Try not to include personal information such as last name, school, address, phone number, etc.
- Under an "About Me" tab (probably a non-clickable menu):
- Create at least two specific content pages that showcase you. The purpose is to introduce yourself to your classmates and to your teacher. After reading it, we should have a better picture of who you are as a person and as a student, and understand how you came to be you, why you are the person you are today, and what is important to you.

- Page 1: Hot Seat / Q & A (Min 3 - 5 questions)
- Under the "About Me" tab, create a standard page called either "Hot Seat" or "Q & A"
- Answer several of the following questions: (Quality over quantity)
- What are you good at? What do you struggle with?
- What are your passions or things that you love to do?
- What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
- What's the best thing that has ever happened to you?
- What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of and why?
- Tell the story of the hardest thing that's happened in your life.
- Tell one story from your life that has helped make you who you are.
- Discuss some of the people in your life that have had the biggest impact on you and how they have inspired you.
- A list of facts about you that your classmates might find interesting.
- What you are looking forward to most this year
- What you are hoping to learn in the course this year
- What went well / didn't go well last school year
- The best part of your summer
- What type of learner are you? How do you learn, what works for you, what doesn't work for you? How you plan to set yourself up for a successful year at Matheson.
- If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
- If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to take with you? Why?
- If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
- If you won a million dollars, what are the first things you would buy or do with it? Explain your decisions.
- If you could spend the day with one fictional character, who would it be? Why? What would you want to do?
- If you found a magic lantern and a genie granted you three wishes, what you wish? Explain your choices?
- Page 2: Special Interest
- Under the "About Me" tab, create a standard page called either "Of Special Interest"
- On this page, showcase one of the following.
(For repeat students, you must create a new page on a topic you didn't cover for a previous course)- ?????? The list of possibilities is endless (Even some of the questions from the list for First Page)
- Interests, values, experiences, hobbies, etc.
- Favourites - movies, music, video games, books, cartoon characters, food, celebrities, etc.
- Your favourite people - best friends, role models, family members, people you want to meet
- Sports you enjoy watching or participating in
- Favourite pets
- Places where you have lived or where you want to live
- Vacations or places you want to travel to
- Dream cars
- What you wanted to be when you grew up: Kindergarten, Grade 7, Now
- Where you want to be in 5 years, 10 years, 25 years
- Dream jobs
- Favourite memes (and why)
- Top fashion / makeup looks
Requirements:
- Visual Appeal
- Utilize a interesting and non-linear design (meaning not one thing under another, things are beside each other)
- Well organized and easy to navigate
- Text should be easy to read - size, colour, contrast with background
- Balance of graphics, video, text ----- all text can be very boring. Must include at least one youtube video
- Use graphics that are suited to your content (no visual vomit of graphics)
- Sufficient depth: Whatever the topics you choose to include, you need to include a fair bit of content.
We aren't talking just one or two sentences.- For example, if I was doing my favourite something, I might want to include at least 3 examples. If I was discussing movies, I might include a discussion of Bambi, Star Wars, and Fright Night. For each movie, I would include a title, picture, Youtube clip of favourite scene or official trailer, a link to the official fan site, a plot synopsis, discussion of why I enjoyed it. Could even discuss my favourite character(s) or moment.
- Be sure to cite your sources of 'borrowed' material properly. (Photos, videos, graphics, borrowed text, etc.)
- Complete address of where you got the info and graphics you used in your site.
- Effective idea: link your photos / graphics to the original source
- Be careful of your spelling and grammar
- In TEAMS, complete the assignment form and provide the link to your portfolio
