Web ProgrammingIn this unit, we aren't going to learn all of the nuts and bolts of web design, but we are going to spend some time making sure we at least know the basics of website development.
Web programming languages like CSS, HTML, and Java, refer to the languages that web developers use to write code and create an appealing design where form and function work together seamlessly. We want sites to look good but also work effectively. |
- Early websites made primarily with HTML and early versions of CSS
- Very plain and simple looking without much styling, interactivity, or animation.
- Currently, while HTML and CSS are still used to create the layout and structural look of a website, other languages like JavaScript and PHP are used to run programs that make sites more interactive.
- Although there are special code editor programs that write the code for websites, any text editor can be used to write html code (such as notepad, TextEdit)
- HTML files are saved as an “.html” file types.
- Web browsers are programs that read HTML files and display them as websites
- Examples of common web browsers are Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox
- HTML code from any site can be viewed by right-clicking on the page in a web browser and selecting “view page source.” A new window or sidebar will open, revealing all the code for that page.
